We went on a day tour, first to Green Island did the glass bottom boat, staff were excellent spent some time on the beach then off to the pontoon on the great barrier reef, the staff on the boat were very informative and as we had booked multiple activities they scheduled a plan for us so we were able to do it all. The Scubadoo with Mark and Ashley was mind blowing, special thanks to Mark for giving us time to see Wally, the buffet had both hot and cold food and was delicious, we then went on a guided snorkel tour with Jordan, we was outstanding, very knowledgeable, patient and gave you a insight that you wouldn't normally understand, finally we went on the semi submersible and saw turtles, sharks, abundant fish and saw how utterly incredible the reef was, all up it was amazing, at no time did we feel unsafe or alone the staff are with you all the way, it is worth the money to do all the extras , thanks everyone
This was going to be the highlight of our trip to FNQ but the weather was against us. However, the staff/crew tried everything to make the day as good as they could considering. Our trip was the full day with 2hrs on Green Island and then out to the pontoon on the reef. Even if the weather had been perfect I can honestly say I wouldn't do Green Island again. You arrive before anything is opening and there is not enough to do there for the 2 hours unless you want to remortgage your house. Beds on the beach were something like $40 for the day. Entry to the crocodile show and exhibits where also $20 per person. I know it's a captive audience but there are better place to go and do either of these activities. We were basically bored whilst here and couldn't wait to leave. We felt sorry for the people getting off the boat as we boarded to head on to the pontoon as they were going to be there for the day. The weather did not make for a great boating experience, with roughly 70% of the people onboard being sick. The crew though throughout this were amazing, offering assistance, providing bags, removing full ones and generally making sure everyone was as well as they could be. On arrival at the pontoon there are several activities that are all included in your tour, with snorkeling and the semi submersible with underwater observatory the 2 that can't be missed. Additional activities that you can book and pay for whilst there are things like scenic helicopter tour, introduction to diving or for those certified full diving, as well as guided snorkeling and Scuba Doo. With the weather so poor the helicopter tours were all cancelled but the other activities still operated but not with many people up to the task. Lunch is served on the pontoon and it was what you would expect from a remote pontoon in the middle of the ocean. Plenty of options, even for fussy eaters, but not very warm and chaotic queuing to get your fill. They run out quickly of certain dishes so be quick. Overall it was a good day, the weather did put a damper on it as we couldn't do our helicopter flight but it allowed us to experience the GBR and gives us a reason to return and we would use Great Adventures again for that trip as well, but not bother with Green Island.
The day of our tour was very windy so the boat ride made a lot of people feel very sick. I cannot praise the staff more highly for how the both prepared our group (10 adults, 10 children aged 4-10) on what to expect and then the care that was provided on the boat. We were offered sea sickness remedies, given cups of ice to distract us, sick bags were readily available and the staff constantly checked in on everyone. We were so impressed. When we got to the pontoon, lunch was delicious with a good variety on offer and they served it very quickly which was great for those feeling unwell. The semi submerged boat tour was interesting and especially great for the littler kids who didn’t want to snorkel. The pontoon included everything you needed to safely snorkel and staff were very helpful. Was a fantastic day and couldn’t recommend the team more highly! Thank you!
Boat, crew, facilities and lunch was great. Snorkelling was disappointing however as it is obvious that the coral at this spot has been quite damaged or killed over time by inexperienced or non-caring snorkellors. At $230 per person I expected better. In saying that the fish were really good. The coral was much better at Fitzroy island with plenty of beautiful fish also.
What a beautiful trip, the scenery and experience was awesome but with a few let downs. They almost instantly ran out of swimming suits and we couldn’t get one to fit our son which was very frustrating. Also the food was...atrocious. There wasn’t really anything for children either and they just ate a slice of bread with butter and a piece of fruit. These aren’t cheap experiences so they could do a lot better, otherwise bring a packed lunch. You also need to bring towels as they aren’t provided.
Five of us had a lot of fun travelling to Green Island then out to the reef. We bought Scuba Doo and Para-sailing ticket on board, and so glad we did! Scuba Doo is for non-swimmers who want to see the reef closer than the semi-submarine. We got to pat Wally the fish and hold a sea cucumber. While it felt like looking out through a fish bowl and everything was smaller, it's still worth doing. The buffet was great and so flexible. You can go for seconds and thirds in between all the activities. One of our members couldn't participate in underwater activities because of health issues, so remember to bring a medical certificate from your GP or specialist. The staff and crew were superb! They have bi-lingual people on board for briefings if needed. Would be keen to go again in the future! When it's less green and cloudy because of the passing cyclone.
We had the best time visiting green island and the reef/ pontoon! Super friendly crew and a great experience, super informative and felt safe the whole experience. Stop over at green island for 2 hours, then 3 + hours snorkeling/ diving. Will absolutely be back next time! Best tour group couldn’t imagine a better tour
Had an amazing time on the Green Island and Great Barrier Reef Adventure - 24Feb21 cruise. Weather was perfect, vessel was immaculate, and the entire day was just an unbelievable experience. The whole Great Adventures team was amazing. Always smiling, really helpful and full of local knowledge. A special shout out to Sharon and Brett who really made you feel like family during the trip and really made the trip for us with their constant smiling and friendliness! The snorkelling at both Green Island and The Outer Reef pontoon was amazing - had a turtle swim right at us within minutes of entering water at Green Island - came face to face with many fish at Outer Reef Pontoon including some large Gropers! Would highly recommend this tour to anyone heading to Cairns!
What a great day. Fantastic staff, great facilities, wonderful fish and coral and stacks to do. We did the Scuba Doo submersible and snorkelling. I can't recommend it more for couples young and old. All we can say is more Australians need to come and see the reef while the international tourists and crowds aren't here.
