My partner and I went out on thriller and had a exhilarating experience. Bill was an excellent guide and we eventually spotted a humpback whale with her calf. Recommend trying thriller out to anyone. Seat was nice and comfortable also and I got to see another view of the Noosa/Sunshine Beach coastline.
Having been on whale watching boats out of Hervey Bay, I was expecting a smallish but covered boat, so was quite suprised to find our boat was the Noosa Thriller. We splashed through the waves out of the river and into the ocean - something akin to a roller coaster ride. It was fun, but not what I’d expected. If you can’t fit it in your pockets, it’s not going with you. If you’re thinking of taking your DSLR you’re on the wrong boat. If you’ve got a waterproof camera or go pro it will be fine. If you’re a serious photographer or have a kids, I’d drive up to Hervey Bay and take a tour out of there. If you’re looking for a real adventure where you start by signing your life away, here it is. We did see whales.
We travel to Noosaville every September school hols with a large group with all of us taking a ride on the Noosa Thriller at some stage. This year the kids were heading out on their own (for the 3rd time) but at the last minute I decided to hop on as well. I would have to say this year was the best ride ever. How crazy the ride gets is determined by the swell, and we had just enough to get some really good air and to get very wet. The highlight though was the pods of whales and dolphins putting on a real show. I noticed in previous posts that people didn't want a comedy act, didn't want to stop to be shown the sights and thought it was "tame", personally this is why I enjoy the Thriller more than the competition up the road and it is far from tame. Yes there is a long dialogue regarding safety procedures etc. but this is a maritime safety requirement. I don't think anyone would be complaining if any of the points covered had to be put to use one day in the open sea. So to Bill and Maree, thanks again for a fabulous trip and watch out for the Meerkats and white pointers! See you in 2014.
